variable face
(also "variable face technology, variable face thickness, VFT") club faces that have different thicknesses in different areas
Example: It is fairly common for drivers to have a variable face where the center is thicker than the edges.
vertical roll
1. (also simply "roll") the curve of the face of a wood or metal wood, from top to bottom (notice in the image that the face is curved in relation to the red line)
Example: Vertical roll helps to compensate for slightly descending or ascending angles of approach, or where on the face the ball is contacted, to keep the launch angle of the shot more consistent.
verticut
a procedure to cut grass vertically (the cutting blades dig into the grass up and down rather than cutting it off horizontally) to promote new blade growth, more turf density and smoother greens or fairways Example: The greens got really smooth a couple weeks after they were verticut.
