- Vardon grip
- (also "overlap grip, overlapping grip") the most common grip in use today, named after historic player Harry Vardon, where the baby finger of the lower hand overlaps and rests on the index finger, or between the index and middle fingers,
of the upper hand
Example: I have never been comfortable with the Vardon grip/overlap grip/overlapping grip, though many people seem to like it. - variable face
- (also "variable face technology, variable face thickness, VFT") club faces that have different thicknesses in different areas
Example: It is fairly common for drivers to have a variable face where the center is thicker than the edges. - vertical roll
- 1. (also simply "roll") the curve of the face of a wood or metal wood, from top to bottom (notice in the image that the face is curved in relation to the red line)
Example: Vertical roll helps to compensate for slightly descending or ascending angles of approach, or where on the face the ball is contacted, to keep the launch angle of the shot more consistent. - verticut
- a procedure to cut grass vertically (the cutting blades dig into the grass up and down rather than cutting it off horizontally) to promote new blade growth, more turf density and smoother greens or fairways
Example: The greens got really smooth a couple weeks after they were verticut.
