Introduction

This book is written for the absolute beginning golfer, who knows nothing (or less) about the game of golf. Of course everybody knows that golf is a game played with a little white ball and clubs with which to Abuse, Batter, or Coax the little white ball into a very small hole in the ground. It's also fairly common knowledge that the object of the game is to get the little white ball into that very small hole with the fewest possible strokes (swings). At least I think everybody knows these things; but, if you didn't before, you do now. See? This is already an informative book in just the first paragraph!

I have been a golf professional for many years now, and it has come to my attention on countless occasions that beginning golfers need a lot of basic information. It is easy for me to take many of these things for granted. After all, I've been around the game for over 30 years now. Each time one of my beginners asks me a seemingly obvious question I am reminded just how obvious things are not. So, in creating this book I have tried to assume as little as my experienced open-mind would allow. This book was inspired by the questions, statements and actions of many beginning students. It contains a glossary of terms you might hear in your golf escapades (hope I didn't leave anything important out). Also included are explanations of what to do, where to go, who to talk to, who not to talk to, when to talk, when not to talk, how to do "this," how to do "that," why this is that way, why that is this way, and various and sundry other things. Man, is this a great book, or what?
